If you like black and white photography and black and white photo editing, you’re going to love this: Google announced that it’s making its Nik Collection of desktop photo editing software 100% free.
The entire collection is now free to download starting today, March 24th, 2016. If you spent money buying the collection anytime this year, you’ll get a full refund of your purchase price (it’ll be automatically issued soon). Amazing right?
A lot of photography professionals and enthusiasts were using Nik Silver Efex Pro for black and white editing with great results because it featured amazing black and white presets making post processing fast, easy and very enjoyable.
The Nik Collection contains 7 desktop plug-ins which offer a large spectrum of photo editing features, including mimicking the look of old cameras and films, retouching and correcting photos, darkroom retouching, adjusting color and tonality, HDR, image sharpening, and noise reduction.
Google is giving Adobe a huge run for its money with this announcement. I’m going to use this opportunity for sure!
“We’re excited to bring the powerful photo editing tools once only used by professionals to even more people now,” Google says. You can download the suite for yourself for both Windows and Mac here.
Adobe please make Photoshop and Lightroom free as well! 🙂

Here is hoping they do. I for one wasted a lot of time on Picasa. So I am going to be skeptical.

That video was thoroughly useful. In all honesty I’m probably going to use Silver Efex the most as I want my digital work to have the same feel as my film work and this is going to give me that ability for free. Well Played Google.
