This question popped into my head pretty often nowadays as i’m undergoing some long study/learning sessions.
When I was little I used to daydream about have the special ability to know everything there is to know about a subject just by touching a book. I wonder if that’s possible.
Why do we need to study so much to achieve something? Why can’t we just be born with the knowledge and not struggle so much our whole life to keep learning? What’s the purpose of all the hard work?
What do you think?

most other animals are born with strong instincts (i.e. the knowledge necessary for survival), which prepares them for a particular niche within a particular environment.
our instincts aren't nearly so strong, but we are capable of learning and adapting. we can master multiple languages, professions, adapt to any culture.
study is difficult, but it allows us to succeed in many environments.
btw, when i was young i also used to fantasize i could learn by touching a book. maybe in the future we'll be able to gain knowledge from chips implanted in our brains, a la the matrix. 🙂

I totally agree with what stm said…learning gives us the ability to adapt to practically every environment…that´s how we survive, that´s how we create…yeah it might be easier just to be born with knowledge..but wouldn´t that take away the joy of achieving through hard work and self satisfaction?…Yeah it would be easier but so boring…now flying that´ll be a helpful ability cause trying to get home while being stuck in traffic its horrible!! besides think of what a pretty view you´ll have xD

i would say you achieve more success you do studying than when you don't. we absorb so much knowledge that when the time of survival instinct kicks in. we quickly know what to do.

Well…I think that by touching a book you could know everything, will be no more scavengers to pick up our garbage, will be no more plumbers, you got my idea.?!.Everyone will want to be managers or doctors or ..somth like that.Learning is not for everybody.Learning is something useful, something that you should see like a way to open your horizons.
All the best.!

Thats the purpose. If we where born with all of the knowledge life would be boring. It keeps life interesting

I am well read and knowledgeable in a wide variety of subjects, but I am “uneducated” in the traditional sense. My learning has no practical applications and stems entirely from one source-insatiable curiosity.

Hmmm I don't know. We are born with instincts, but obviously we have to study and learn to gain additional knowledge which isn't completely necessary for survival.

I rarely study. In fact, I've aced my last 2 courses without ever touching the book. They've dumbed down college to the point where the degree is about as worthless as a GED or High School Diploma.

To progress. I think human nature pushes us to progress and improve ourselves personally, and as a whole. But nothing comes without a price, and in this case its time and study.
